Via Porta Fredda · Castello di Laterina
A 13th-century house in the oldest part of the village, next to the medieval Ghianderino tower, one of the towers of the Castello di Laterina.
La Torretta occupies the oldest part of the Castello di Laterina, in the early-medieval core of the village, next to the Ghianderino tower it takes its name from. It is a thirteenth-century house: the stone stairs connecting the first to the second floor are the original ones from that period, worn smooth by eight centuries of footsteps. Climbing them to reach the bedrooms means walking the same stone the castle's inhabitants walked when its walls were still a line of defence, not a memory. The house keeps the essential character of Tuscan homes of old — wood-beamed ceilings, a stone fireplace in the living room, dark wood floors — while offering every modern comfort: two bedrooms, two bathrooms with shower, an eat-in kitchen, and a small terrace overlooking the Valdarno countryside. On spring evenings, it's from there that the scent of the Tuscan countryside rises to the windows, while the eye follows the fields and hills around the castle. La Torretta doesn't tell an isolated anecdote: it's a lived-in fragment of Laterina's oldest history, offered to those seeking a genuine experience, not just a stay.
